I’ve searched and read thru this forum and there are multiple posts about the issue with the GE Profile Spacemaker shutting off after 2 seconds, restarting, and then shutting off again. There never seem to be any replies to these threads. Why the silence? Scanning the internet it seems to be a common issue.
Obviously, I am having this same issue. I have a JVM2070SK02 which was manufactured in 06. It will run for 2 seconds, shut off, start back up, run about 2 more seconds, and then after the third round shut off completely. To regain use of the control pad I have to unplug it are restart the process. Occasionally it makes a jerky shudder sound and keeps running for a few seconds before quitting.
It will sometimes run fine if larger items are in the microwave, or if I add a bowl of water in there with a smaller item. I have gotten various error codes at times, but typically none. Using any of the sensor functions seems to trigger the shut downs as well.
Trying to determine if it is better to repair or replace the unit, and if it is a magnatron issue (warrenty for part but not labor?), control panel issue, or something else. Service call is $80, and then parts and labor, although the magnatron may be covered. The microwave was in our new home when we bought it - we are the first owners and have been in the home for 2.5 years.
Most likely there is a problem with the high voltage part of the microwave.
You may want to run it in Demonstration mode (in demonstration mode, everything will operate on the unit except the high voltage section).
To enter the demonstration mode, disconnect the power for 30 seconds then reapply power. Simultaneously press the HELP screen pad and the BOOST button for 3 seconds. The word DEMO will appear in the LCD display.
Run the microwave as usual in a few different modes and post the results.
To exit the demonstration mode, disconnect the power for 30 seconds then reapply power.
Most likely the problem caused by the electromagnetic waves, leaking from the magnetron and interfering with the control board. The correction is to replace the magnetron.
You can order the magnetron from Appliance Parts Pros for $113.08 and replace it yourself (not too difficult job if you know how to handle a simple tools) or have GE do it for you. Figure out their labor charge - it can be much more.
