I have a Maytag that will fill with water but will not agitate after it fill up with water. The timer runs down but nothing happens in the regular fabric cycle. If I swich it to the Permanent Press cycle it works fine and everything will work as normal. I suspect the Timer is going bad but not sure any help out there will be much appricated.
I have a Maytag LAT8234AAE. It’s so old it doesn’t have a name that I can see. Recently it started failing to agitate in certain cycles but not in others. I traced the problem to the timer. Specifically to the motor interrupter pin inside the timer. It appears that age has worn down its contact and consequently the motor is getting cut off when it shouldn’t. It can help to jiggle the knob. But you don’t want to have to babysit the machine. I used a nail file to shave down the end of the pin where it meets the timer sprocket. This narrowed the gap and made contact more likely for now. Nevertheless, I’m going to start saving for a new timer.
Nice going, thanks for the info!
