Will not spin

I have a Roper RAS8244KQ0 top load, direct drive that will not spin. I replaced the clutch assembly and this did not correct the problem. It will agitate and drain. the motor sounds like it’s running when it gets to the spin cycle. this sound stops and starts when the lid is lifted and reclosed. What did I do wrong, or did I misdiagnose? need some help here cause my next option is high explosives.

Run it in spin mode with cabinet removed and lid switch bypassed. Observe the clutch hub. If it is not spinning, the gearcase is faulty. If it is spinning, could be the brake cam driver, did you replace it when you replaced the clutch? Did you use a genuine Whirlpool FSP replacement clutch? Other possibilties are stuck brakes, worn out drive block, clothing jammed between the tubs. Did you make sure the basket drive was all the way in before reinstalling the gearcase? Gearcase all the way up against the mounts?

Eric,

Yup used the "FSP" parts, didn’t know it at the time cause they didn’t say Whirlpool on the bag. yes a new break cam was installed and everything went back together pretty quick and easy.
Now I’m going to go take the cabinet off and run it as you suggested to see what it does.
On reflection, the tub does not turn by hand when the washer is in spin mode, is that an indication of "stuck breaks" ?
