Agitation get very weak after 5 min and starts to leak water

Hi,

Two days ago, my 20th century Frigidaire top-loader washer started making a different noise while agitating. I came to open the top door to see what was going on and my feet were in water. When i opened the door i saw that the agitator was moving very weakly and almost not in one direction.

I tried again with minimum load and the agitator worked well for about 5 minutes then it started being weak and the machine leaked water again. I opened the machine, tryed to find the source of the leak but could’nt. I removed the agitator and inner tub. I’m trying to remove the outer tub now and/or the trunnion to get a picture of how it’s made and where could be the problem. Anybody have an idea of what is the problem ?

Also, I can’t find any reference to my model number on internet (FW955A-W0) but I noticed that the diagram of models like FWS446GHS0 or FWS950… are similar.

I searched alot on internet but the problems are not quite like mine and the solutions are so diverse. Need some help.

Thank you very much.

I reassembled the washing machine and tried to figure out the source of the leak. It’s obviously dripping from under the outer tub, near the shaft entry. So i guess it’s the outer tub seal that is leaking. I followed the water and it goes right on the strap. That’s why the agitator got weak.

Now, does anybody know how i can remove the trunnion or the outer tub to access the seal ?

Thank you.

I hope you can find all information in the Service manual. In order to download it you have to register there.

Wow amazing!! Do you have an idea of another model number i could use because i can’t find anything with FW955A-W0? That way i could shop for the parts i need like the seal and maybe the bearing. The guide is helping for the hand work but not much with this.

BTW, I haven’t seriously tried to remove the trunnion but with the way they show it in the book, it look way too easy for a shaft that have been there for 10 years with all that corrosion! Trust me i’m going to sweat on this one.

Thank you very much, very good support!

I’ve tried this model number and did not come up anywhere. Are you sure you did not miss any letter or number? Is this washer made to use in USA?
