I was filling a water bottle using the water dispenser when the water suddenly stopped dispensing. The ice maker now longer works either. I would like to DIY repair it, but can determine the actual problem. There is water in the plastic tubing leading to both the dispenser and the ice maker and the dispenser makes the sound like it is going to dispense water, but no water comes out. Any ideas?
Hello. My first thought is the fact that the ice maker and the water dispenser utilize two separate water valve solenoids. This practically eliminates the water valve from being your issue. The water supply is where you should start. Find the water shutoff to the unit and turn off the water. Remove the water line from the back of the unit. Put the end of the water line into a bucket or plastic trashcan where it can’t jump out when water shoots out of it. Turn the water back on and make sure you have sufficient water pressure to the unit. There are a couple of models which, when water is dispensed for longer than 2 minutes, the control thinks there’s a leak and disables the units ability to dispense water for any reason. If you could please verify the model number on the I.D. tag, I can check to see if your model has this option and can provide you with the procedure to reset to factory default, restoring normal operation. Also, if your model has a water filter in line with both the water dispense and the ice maker, you need to make sure it’s not stopped up or frozen. I hope this proves helpful!
