My Amana NDE5805AYW dryer would not heat. I removed the tumbler and found one wire going to the heating element had been hot and burnt the end off. The rest of the wire looks fine.The heating element, hi-limit, thermal fuse, and cycling thermostat all have continuity. Should I be looking for other problems or just repair the burnt wire?
I would check to make sure the heating element is not grounded.
Then fix the wire and see what happens.
Make sure to clean the connector on the element with fine emery cloth or sandpaper or a file.
Be sure to cut the wire back till you get to nice clean copper.
Also use a connector that is rated for high current.
What you might want to check is the vent to the outside, and the vent hose on the back of the dryer. Most times the reason, that wire burns at the heater is because the vent might be dirty, or partially blocked, and all the air does not leave the dryer. So the heating element, will glow red hot, which is too much heat, but it will short cycle. If you can get the front of the dryer off, there is a vent housing that can be removed that has a history of collecting lint. Once the front is off, the housing is attached to the front side of cabinet, with two 5/16th screws on the right side holding it in place, and 2 on the left side. Then you can remove the whole front vent housing, and on the bottom of that front, is where lint, builds up. Those are things I usually do on that product, when I am out on a service call. You hit the nail on the head, the vent housing had a build up of lint. Would you replace the heating element and fuse or just repair the wire and put it back together? THANKS!
