Hi.
My wife and I recently moved. Our refrigerator was in storage from March 14 through April 11.
We’ve now moved into our new residence, and the fridge is no longer cold.
I set it up to the coldest setting, nada.
It’s probably about 50-55 degrees, F.
Any ideas about what this could be?
I did stop by the appliance shop which replaced the compressor in the summer 2012, and he asked if the fan was running, or the compressor.
It sounds like the compressor is running, and I don’t know what sound I should be hearing, with regards to the fan.
TYIA.
Ok.
I’ve open up the back of the fridge. The fan and the compressor is working.
Since the compressor is running and you are not getting any cooling in the freezer it is a sealed system problem.
This will be an expensive repair as you need a pro.
Often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit.
You may want to remove the cover in the freezer and inspect the evaporator coils for any frost and check that the evaporator/freezer fan is running.
Hi Denman.
The freezer fan is running, and blowing cool–not cold-- air.
I am still unpacking my boxes, and can’t locate my nut driver to open up that panel in back of the freezer.
If you are getting cool (not cold) air then it is still probably a sealed system problem.
If you see frost on the evaporator coils but it is just in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) then it is a sealed system problem (low freon).
One thing to check is if the unit was not kept upright during the move then you should have let it sit for 24 hours before plugging it in.
You may want to unplug it for 24 hours and give it another try. If you think this may have happened.
Ok.
The fridge did not get laid down at more than a 45 degree angle, and just to be moved through a doorway, on a fridge dolly.
We did use those shoulder/forearm straps to hoist it over/through the threshold. But that was still vertical. I will however unplug it for a day and see what happens. thank you for your help here.
