clicking noise

I have a maytag model fav6800aww washer . when you turn it on it will fill with water but when it begins to wash cycle it make a load clicking noise as if a gear it skipping over something . it runs good on spin cycle to spin and empty all the water out . I am just not sure where to start checking out this . could you give me some common thing to start with . thank you
