Cycle stops after 30 seconds

My maytag front load washer will start a cycle and then after 30 seconds or so it will stop and the light will go out. It will fill for 30 seconds then stop. I can advance the knob to drain and it will pump out for 30 seconds then stop. Can you advise?

Hi Patty

We can advise, but not very well. If you have been aware of notices about this model you will know that this Maytag Neptune has been one of the most troubled models ever built. Problems with the door lock assembly, control board, motor control board and a bunch of other stuff abound. As a result there could be a number of sources of your difficulty.

If it were my machine I would replace it with a no frills top loader, which will give you years of service and cost little more than the parts needed to fix your machine if indeed the correct parts can be indentified and install by yourself. If you have to pay for a tech visit it is definitely more economical to replace it.

If you want to fix it yourself I think the logical place to start is to check all of the wiring for continuity and fraying, and pay particular attention to the wiring between the CCU and the motor/motor control. If that does not solve it the next logical step is to install the new motor/motor control conversion kit, but this is speculation and not guaranteed to fix your problem, and it is an expensive part. Here is Maytag Tech Bulletin on the issue.
