Dead! Kenmore Elite -Advantium 120

Serial number: 503KM00176. Looking for a service manual/schematic for this oven, to diagnose why my microwave crapped out during cooking some weenies in a blanket. (Luckily finished cooking them in the gas range.) Anyway, I checked the outlet to the microwave, there is power to there. So I got the top grille out (three screws), but I need to know where the fuse is, where the other items are so I can check them out with my multi-meter. Hoping this is a fuse issue! Cannot find this model’s manual here. Help, please! Nick.

Hi Nick,

Most likely the problem is a blown cavity thermostat (#1430 on the Diagram #5).

Gene.

Got my parts, now do I have to pull this beast off the wall to install the cavity thermostat? Hope not! Anyone? Thanks, Nick.

Click on any diagram link on page 1 and type your model number in the search box. You’ll get all break down diagrams.

After you locate the fuse just check it for continuity (remove the wires first).

Gene.

Thanks. Pulled the fuse and it’s showing 0 on VOM, so I ordered the cavity thermocouple.

I’m glad you were able to fix it.

Gene.

I’m glad I found this forum! I also have a dead Kenmore Elite Advantium 120 - Model 363.63699301. I understand this model may be different than those already mentioned in this thread, but after looking at the diagrams they appear fairly similar.

Anyway, I was using the convection oven when it just stopped - no display, no light, nothing. The power going to the oven power cord checks ok, so the issue is within the unit.

Based on the previous repairs in this thread, it looks like I need to take the unit off the wall, check the fuse, and if the fuse is ok I should replace the themocoupler, right? Based on my parts list and diagrams, I see a "TCO, Oven Cavity" and a "TCO, Base Hood." Is the Oven Cavity the one I should repace? Is there a way to bench check a TCO? With a manual and some tools I am fairly handy with disassembly/assembly, but I can certainly use a primer on how the parts work together.

Any help is appreciated!

Well, even though I didn’t get a reply here, I took the plunge and bought the TCO. Taking the oven off the wall and then tearing into it wasn’t fun, but the "operation" was ultimately successful. There certainly were a lot of layers to disassemble to get to the part I needed to swap, but in the end it was pretty straight forward.

So thanks for the previous postings here - it gave me the confidence to perform this surgery on my own!

Strummer,

If the problem is the inline fuse then you do not have to remove the microwave. Just open the control panel. If the problem is the TCO then you do have to remove the microwave.

Hi Gene,

My KEA 120 just died while using the convection oven as well. I’d like to know how common it is for the
Thermostat-upper heater

Part # WB21X10046

which is #1430 on the diagram you referenced to die? I’m just about to order it but want to make sure this is the cause since it has helped some of the others here.

Thanks!
Tom

Tom,

Nobody can tell you that without proper diagnosis. Otherwise it is just guessing.

Quite true. But the guy you helped had only checked his fuse before you said it was probably the thermastat. Which is why I asked how common it was for that to go out since 2 others had the same problem and results. I have checked the 2 fuses and they are both good as well.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thank you for this useful information.

When I said "guessing" I meant the common problem does not mean it happens every single time, and it has to be confirmed to avoid wasting of money.

Gene.

How do I change the water valve? Do I have to remove the back cover from the washer?

Without a model number it is a guess!!!
YES

Why do you want to replace it?
If it is shot the unit is still under warranty, place a service call.
Could be something else (more expensive) causing your problem.

How do I change a water valve on this washer. Do I have to remove the entire back cover of the washer? I have done this on a previous washer but it was easy and this one doesn’t seem that I could get to it without remnoving the back cover. Thanks for your help.

Im not sure who you are Gene. But your postings here were extremely helpful to me and I fixed a clients microwave quite easily thanks to this thread. Thanks

Here’s a link I found on the the detailed inner workings of the microwave: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/advantium_sca1000_sca1001_sm.pdf.

Awesome thread; thanks Gene and everyone else for some great feedback! Helped me determine that the cavity TCO (the one on the top-left-front of the microwave, above the door) in my Advantium was bad.

And I figured this out from this forum after two visits from a Sears repairman accomplished nothing and wasted precious $$$. (He thought it was hood TCO…)

Hello all!

I have the Kenmore Elite - Advantium 120 Model # 3636370 that most everyone has referred to on the post. April 2008 our microwave/convection oven dead while using the convection portion…dead…no display of any sort. We had it repaired and told it was the TCO board.

Just last night while using the convection oven, the oven went dead again. This was the first time using the convection oven since the new part was replace and because it had been over a year the warranty is no good. It appears to be the exact same problem…the TCO board.

My question is…why does this same problem continue to happen? Is there something else that could cause the TCO board to fail a second time?

Thanks.
