direct drive Whirlpool - no agitate, spin, or drain

Washer fills with water, but won’t start agitating - I can hear the motor running though. It normally starts agitating with the lid up so i don’t think it’s the lid switch.

Hello. The lid switch works as a safety switch, the unit should not spin , or drain with the lid up, this is where I would start ,
[part]AP3020600[/part]. There are other possibilities,

[part]AP3119063[/part] These will keep it from agitating and spinning

[part]AP3094539[/part] this would be next possibility,

These are the most likely problems thank you and good luck !

If it will drain, but not spin or agitate check the coupling,
this part here

AP3963893

It won’t drain.

Check the pump to see if there is something in it or blocking it.

There’s nothing stuck / blocking the pump, it does have some resistance to turning but does turn.

I am a little confused. If the motor is running it has to drain because the outside shaft of the motor turns the pump.

I can only suggest you operate it with the cabinet off (you can by pass the lid switch) and see if the motor is turning when it is supposed to be agitating.

If so then see if the motor is turning when it is supposed to be spinning. This will tell you if there is a transmission problem.

Now i’m trying to do electrical tests so I don’t have to fill it with water just yet. I tried to test the capacitor with a dmm i just got. It says 0.128 nF with leads not touching anything, and says 0F when attached to the capacitor. I’m trying to scrounge up another capacitor to try to see if meter is defective. It did spark when I discharged it if that means anything.

It’s the coupler.

Great, glad you found the problem and thanks for updating us.
