Do I need a special tool?

How do I replace the pump housing assembly? I have removed the old one from the dishwasher and had to take part of the motor with it. Is there a special tool that allows you to remove the impeller from the plastic housing?

Hi Gene (Sorry, I know this is an old post),

I believe I am also experiencing the same issue where it is leaking in between the pump housing assembly and the motor. I have a Whirlpool DU890SWKU0 which appears to be the same as the RUD1000KB1, so I have the part numbers. I’m a novice at this but willing to try - would you happen to have step-by-step instructions on how to remove and disassemble the pump and motor parts from the dishwasher? Would I have to remove the dishwasher from under the counter to perform this fix?

Thanks!
Chris

Chris,

You have to remove the dishwasher from the cabinet and remove the lower spray arm by unscrewing the large plastic nut first. Put the dishwasher on its right side. Be prepared to catch some water from the dishwasher. It is pretty visible how to remove the pump assembly from the dishwasher. As the next step you can use the instructions from the previous reply.

Gene.
