My dryer does not always shut off at the end of the timer setting. Sometimes the drum stops, but the heat stays on!
I replaced the TIMER unit with new part from here. NO CHANGE.
What am I missing?

If the heat stays on all of the time then you perhaps have a shorted wire or terminal in there somewhere. There should be no continuous circuit when the motor turns off. after disconnecting the power perform a continuity check between one terminal of the heating element and the heating can (the metal casing surrounding the heating element.) If there is any continuity between the element and ground the you have a dead short somewhere.
thanks! I’ll check that. I have a new TIMER unit last week thinking that was the trouble. It didn’t change a thing $95 to be stumped by a simple dryer. Lol
If you find ultimately that your timer was good and you do not need the new one you purchased, if you purchased it here at APP I believe it can be returned with a refund. If you look at the top of the APP parts page it says 365 day buy and try…
That’s true! I can’t believe it wasn’t the timer - there is only so much on that circuit to go wrong.
We have a whirlpool model#wgd5300vwo, heat works fine but have no settings for time. I would figure timer defective, but this info says that’s a uncommon problem. Hate to spend hundred bucks for nothing. Any advice would be great
Johnny,
Start a new thread with your issue, this thread involves an electric dryer. We’d be happy to assist you. While you are starting a new thread I will begin researching your issue. If you would elaborate more about your problem in that new thread that would be helpful.
