Dryer Squeal on GE

Loud squeal started today and it sounds like the belt. Gas Dryer SN HL7409679. All parts are original. Any suggestions?

Could be the belt idler making the noise. I doubt it’s the belt myself.

Ok, the dryer is about 8 years old, original belt. It’s quiet if you only dry half a load so that’s why I was thinking the belt. If you think it’s the idler…what would that entail ? The sound was all of a sudden…not gradual.

Here is the diagram for your dryer.

I would remove the top and front. then the dryer drum.
Spin the idler by hand and see if it makes any noise.

Well it’s apart it would not hurt to check the belt for cracks and replace it if needed.

Ok, to do this job I had to take the control panel off to get to the top and the front removals. I then removed the dryer drum and replaced the belt and the idler. I referenced the link below and still can’t figure out how to get this belt back on. Other than the diagram, does anyone have any ideas?

Ok, I replaced the belt and the idler by removing the left cover and it sounded great when I tested before putting everything back together. Once we put some wet towels in the exact same noise is happening again. What else?

Most common cause is the rear drum support bearing (Item 508 in Section 4) of the parts.
