Hotpoint elec dryer. Gets very HOT to the touch on the top , left side of the case. Cleaned out vent lines and inside case as best I could. Still happening. Could it be something else? Also has a low rumbling sound when running but will tackle one problem at a time.

Did that and vent had a lot of lint but not totally plugged. Cleaned out. Still gets VERY hot at the four screws on the back - looks like where the drum attaches. Is this normal? Could it be related to the rumbling sound? Maybe a bearing overheating?

Just started a load with vent clear. Rear of case got very hot. Put thermometer on case and read 195 degrees. Shut down dryer. Any ideas?

If you are talking about the rear of the drum, that is where the element is. It is going to get hot. Do this for me. Get the thermometer, and stick it in the vent hose behind the dryer. I hope this thermometer has the thin shaft to puncture a hole in the vent tube, and turn on the dryer, on timed dry, and the temp should not exceed 155 degrees. If it does, and you are sure the vent is clear, then you neeed to replace the operating thermostat. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com
