Estate/Whirlpool agitates & drains but no spin!

Hello all,

Here is a brief history of how the washer was acting prior to it not spinning at all. A few months ago I noticed that with heavier loads the spin cycle would not engage. After finagling with the switch (reseting it from heavy to normal) it would run through the wash cycle again and spin. I really do not remember it ever giving me this issue with lighter loads… typically towels caused it to happen. Almost every time I could eventually get it to spin by changing up the cycle/mode from heavy to normal or lite. Well, a week ago it finally stopped spinning. These are the symptoms.

-Washer will agitate just fine
-Washer will drain just fine
-When the spin cycle engages there are no loud noises but you can hear the motor and it does speed up towards the end of the cycle (so it sounds like it is actually spinning).
-Pulling the switch out and in with the top open and once I saw the barrel jump about a half inch but nothing more.
-The switch itself has a buzzing noise when the washer is on a cycle… It’s hard to explain. I do not remember this sound but I can honestly say I’ve never hung out with the washer in this manner during a wash cycle.
-No loud noises were ever heard prior to having these issues. No booms, pops, machine gun sounds. Just the hum from the motor during spin cycle.

I went ahead and ordered a coupling but upon further research it seems that if my coupling was bad it would not agitate either. I still plan on replacing it if I can fix the spin issue.

With that being said… are there any ideas? Could it be as simple as a switch? I plan on getting it apart this weekend to have a look but I am fishing for ideas so I don’t dive off the deep end on what might be something easily overlooked.

Thanks Much!
Brandon

Performed an additional test today. Set the washer directly to spin, put my hand in the tub and moved it a bit (too tight to spin freely but was able to get it to move). Right after that I quickly dropped the top then peeked in and noticed it was spinning but not at the speed you would expect, but it did maintain a weak spin…

So… should I be looking at the transmission? Thoughts?
