I have replaced my timer twice and my machine still doesn’t cycle through properly. Often seems to get stuck on the fill cycle. Any ideas what else might cause this problem.
The two most common causes for overfilling are a sticking water inlet valve, and a clogged or restricted air way between the air dome (attached to the botom right side of the outer tub) and the pressure, or, water level, switch.
To test for which cause you have, unplug the machine when you catch it over filling. If it continues to fill after unplugging, replace the water valve.
Look for items of clothing blocking the air dome (GE machines are famous for allowing clothing items to get between the inner oan outer tubs. (They’ll also stop up the drain outlet, hoses, or pump).
If the air way is blocked, the machine may "think" it’s still empty, and continue to fill.
EDIT: You can also check the air hose for restriction by disconnecting it from the pressure switch in the console, and blowing into it. If you can hear the air entering the tub, the airway is probably not the cause of you overfill.
Unfortunately, you may have needlessly replaced the timer. The timer won’t energize until after the water level switch is satisfied.
Let us know what you find.
