Water does not stop filling and leaks

[SIZE=3]My washer overflowed yesterday. After the clean up, I tried another small load and watched it fill up and realized it was not going to stop filling. I shut it off and could hear water draining out from somewhere under the washer. I turned the washer to the drain and spin cycle and was able to drain the water out. Help!!! Kanabcab[/SIZE]

It sounds like your water fill valve is getting stuck open. This is usually caused by calcium and other solids fouling the valve and keeping it from completely closing. Here’s the part number. [part]AP3267279[/part]

Thanks. I did a load of muddy clothes prior to this mishap. Perhaps mud has caused the problem. Thanks for your quick reply.:confused:

It depends how you are able to shut it off.

If you had to shut it off at the tap then it is probably the water inlet valve.

If it shut off by unplugging or turning the timer to off it is probably the water level switch (Item 5 9in Section 3).

This switch is actually a pressure switch. It has a tube that runs down to the bottom of the tub, as water fills the tub, air is trapped in the tube. As the water rises, the air pressure in the tube increases until it reaches the switch’s set point then the switch activates turning off the water and starting the agitate.

Since you mentioned the muddy clothes odds are that Item 1 below is the problem.

Possible problems.

  1. Gunk blocking water from entering the tube. Remove the tube at the switch and blow into it to clear the plug.
  2. Cracks or holes in the tube allowing the air to escape. Inspect the tube. Also check that it is tight on the switch, if not, cut off half an inch and re-seat it.
  3. The switch is toast. Get a piece of tubing with the same internal diameter and attach this to the switch. Start a fill, then blow into the tube. You should be able to stop the water flow without blowing very hard.
    If you cannot stop it the switch is toast.

:cool: Our washer and dryer are "stackers". What is the easiest way to locate the "tube" so we can flush it out? We took off the bottom panels this morning and we were not able to locate the "tube". My husband is a plumber and feels it probably is the tube. Please advise. Thanks!!

The switch looks like this. AP3867022. Remove the tube from this switch and blow into it. If it’s clear you will hear air or a slight gurgling in the washer. Don’t do this if there is water in the washer.

We were able to find the pressure hose and found it was disconnected…apparently due to increased agitation due to the heavy clothes covered in mud.
