Fridge slowly died, wont cool, hot compressor

Hi!
My poor fridge…:frowning:
this models from the early 90’s i think, fridge up top, freezer below

First thing that happened was that i noticed that beer in the fridge was not as cold as it usually is. I turned the thermo to the coldest setting, worked ok for a few days then the same happened.
Then my freezer slowly started to defrost and now both are room temp after about 2 days.
The fridge hasn’t made any new noises, the compressor is damn hot
(not sure if its always been like that) but still humming along like always.

The only thing i did notice was that there was a liquid-like noise coming from the freezers back panel where the fluid/gas is cycled, ive never heard it before.

As far as ive read here, it doesnt seem to be the relay/overload due to the fact that that the compressor seems to be running( humming and slightly vibrating) but really hot. It doesnt click or restart.
i might be wrong. as of yet i havent checked it.

Ive tried letting it sit off overnight yo cool down but hasnt really helped.
ive also cleaned the compressor and elements.

Could it be the thermo? how would i check that?
If it sounds like the compressors had it, il get a new one.

Thanks for any help in advance! Cheers!

I cannot find any info on your unit but it should not really matter.

Sounds like the compressor is toast or you have a freon leak.

Remove the cover in the freezer so you can see the evaporator coils.
If they have no frost on them either there is a plug in the sealed system, you are out of freon or the compressor is toast.

If there is just frost in one area or it is very blotchy you are low on freon and have a leak in the sealed system.

Both of the above are an expensive repair as you need a pro.
Usually it is better to put those dollars into a new fridge.
