My freezer on bottom drawer has had a problem with frost building up on the ledge on the inside top of the drawer front, ever since the "certified" Maytag/Whirlpool repairman played guerrilla when he replaced the thermostat a few years ago and broke 2 gears on the closer mechanism and bent the brackets attaching the drawer front. I’ve had a local appliance store’s certified repairmen in 3 times in the past 3 months. They identified and fixed the gears, alignment, and bent brackets, but the frost buildup periodically re-occurs, to a greater degree more recently. The magnetic gasket seal had been previously replaced (unnecessarily). I have an identical second refrigerator of the same model and date, so it’s easy to tell what works on one and not on the other. The entire refrigerator and freezer seems to work, as designed, otherwise. It does not run more than the other fridge and does not consume more energy.
My question now is should I give up and just accept the frost buildup, spend hundreds on replacing the freezer drawer and all related components, or junk this fridge and get a new one? Three years of hassle is far too much. (I actually had it unplugged for most of the last 3 years.)
Thank-you.
