my gas dryer burner will fire 2 to 3 times in a drying cycle. This happens when we first start the dryer. After the first couple of fires the hot surface igniter will glow but the gas valve will not open. Please help!!

My ice dispenser quits dropping ice and then makes a growling noise. It does this either asking for crushed ice or cubes. I have had it apart clear down to the gear box and I can find nothing wrong with it. What am I overlooking? If there is some kind of clutch in it I can’t see any. The flap works fine. The auger is fine. I even sharpened the points on the ice crushing fingers on the auger. Still no help. I checked the big gear in the gear box to see if it were slipping on the shaft, but I put as much force on it that I dared to without breaking it and I could not make it slip. Can someone out there tell me what I am overlooking?
