GE Double Wall Oven - LCD display is out

So I got the call from my mother today - more stuff added to the "to do" list for the son! The LCD display has gone out in her oven. The oven still works fine, you just don’t know what the temperature is, can’t see the clock/timer, etc. And you can’t see an error code. A repair man came out and said she needs a new "electronic control" but that his parts supplier doesn’t have it. But "if she can find one" call him and he will come install it for her.

Looking at the parts diagram, I’m assuming the defective part is part 16 "oven clock control" shown here http://www.appliancepartspros.com/control-panel-parts-for-ge-jtp45ba1bb.html - I’m assuming part 1 is simply the cover plate and not really the brains of the oven at all. Anybody else run across this issue before and is this worth purchasing the part and "hoping" that is the fix versus having a better diagnosis? The repairman didn’t open up the cover on the oven at all - it was a visual diagnosis. Hate to spend this much of mom’s money and it be the wrong part!

Thanks in advance!
