Just bought used Washer Dryer Set. Washer has a broken baffle.(not sure what broke it). I know that I can disassmble entirely and open the plastic tub and remove the stainless basket in order to get the screw in to the baffle. The screw hole doesn’t align with the drain at the bottom (bad design as far as I’m concerned). I’m quite tempted to take the top panel off the washer and drill a hole from the inside out through the plastic tub at the top of the tub through the baffle screw hole. I could then place the screw without the huge disassembly and marinetex or silicone the drill hole closed. Any thoughts about this short-cut approach to the repair?
I did the repair this evening. It went very smooth. The hole is top-dead-center of the tub. Just big enough for the screw head. Used a magnetic screwdriver to place the screw. Marine silicone to close the hole. We’ll see how well it holds. If problems I’ll take a step up in repair materials and use an epoxy. 15 minutes vs. 2 to 3 hours the proper way.
