I have a GE Profile that all of a sudden decided to stop cooling. I checked and could not find any thing obvious. I replaced the capacitor, relay and overload after reading some info on the internet, but it still will not cool. The compressor gets cool, but never really changes. The fans run and the coils in the back of the freezer cools slightly but will not get cold. The mother board doesn’t look burnt. I don’t know what to try next.

Open the freezer coils and check if they are covered with frost evenly or only in one corner.

The freezer coil is not covered with frost. It will not even get cold. I worked fine one day then the next was 90 degrees inside.

Check if the compressor is running.You should fill the vibration and heat.Check if it’s getting 120VAC from the control board.

Not really sure that the compressor is coming on. It never gets hot. The fan that cools the coils runs.

Remove the control board cover, locate on the left side of the control J8 of the 3 wire plug and J7 plug. With unit running check for 120VAC between J8 and J7 pin 9.
No voltage - replace the control board WR55X10942
Follow the instructions, you may need to do some adjustments.

I checked the voltage as you suggested and there is 120V between the pins. The compressor does not seem to be turning on, just the fan is running. What do I check next?

Check if there is 120VAC at the start relay overload.
If yes - remove them (unplug the fridge) and check 3 compressor’s pins for continuity and to the "ground" (any copper tube).
If you have continuity between the pins and no continuity to the "ground" - replace the relay and overload.

Well, I finally had a chance to check this. I have 0 volts at the start relay. I unplugged the connector and checked for voltage. I get 120 vac when I check to one half connected to the power cord, but when I plug it in and check voltage on the other side of the connector, I get nothing, checking all combinations across the connector. I also get 0 vac across the relay and the overload, so somehow I am not getting voltage to the compressor, even though the fan starts and runs. As I mentioned in the beginning, I just replace the start relay, overload and capacitor. Any ideas as to what to try next?

Sorry. It’s not clear what and how do you measure the voltage.
Please try to explain more clearly how you do it.
Also, did you check the compressor contacts for continuity and ground?
The condenser fan runs off the separate circuit (DC).
With unit unplugged remove the control board and check it from the back for burns and bad soldering spots.

Finally had a chance to get back to looking into this. I removed the mother board and found a burn mark on the back. It was at one of the connections for the fuse for the compressor. It blew the solder out of the via. For a test, I pushed some of the solder back into the via to make a connection. I reconnected the motherboard and the compressor turned on. I let it run for a while just to be sure it was working. I then removed the board and resoldered the connection. So far so good. I am still not sure why the solder blew out and the fuse didn’t blow, or what caused the fuse to blow in the first place. Hopefully it will continue to run for several more years. Thanks for all of the help with trouble shooting the problem.
