When I came home last night I found that the ice maker wasn’t working and no lights. I opened the fridge and the light came on however both the fridge and freezer were warm. I am not sure how many hours it has not been working but there is no noise from either. I unplugged and plugged it back in and nothing. This morning I took off the back panel to the master control panel to find a very strong burnt smell. After taking off the board it was burnt on the front and back near the upper right area. I called and have a new board on order hopefully arriving early next week however I am wondering if I might also have a bad compressor or something else that caused the board to short out? It shorted so badly that it burnt a hole through the back insulation.
A few months ago I had a very bad power surge that burnt the ice maker board and after replacing it worked again however I could only get crushed ice, not cubed. When the freezer was working it would make noise as though it was working hard at times but not all the time. I just wrote this off as normal. Could these be related or do you think I might of had another power surge to cause this latest board to be burnt? I don’t want to install another board to find out it is the compressor but imagine there isn’t a way to test it without a board?
Thanks,
Mike
