GE Washer won't drain

My washer all of a sudden yesterday would fill with water and wash my clothes but won’t drain or spin.

I move the dial to the polsition where it should start the drain and spin cycle but it just humms…If I leave the washer on the dial rotates and starts agitating when it hits a certain spot on the dial otherwise it just has a slight humm until it gets to a position where it agitates.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Remove the front panel. Check the lid switch. Check the pump motor. Remove the hoses from the pump and check them for a clog. Post the results.

The hoses look fine, no clogs. I removed the Lid switch and it rattles but I don’t know how to check if it’s working.
I also don’t know how to check if the pump motor is working.

The pump looks fine…

it appears the lid switch isn’t working properly…When I try to run the washer on spin it just hums loudly…and if I turn the dial it’ll only agitate.

Where this "hum" is coming from?

Gene.

It appears to be coming from the Timer…when I turn the dial and put it on the rinse or spin cycle it hums…when i put it on wash it agitates…

A humming noise from the timer… sounds very unusual. It might be from the motor or from the drain pump.

Have you checked the lid switch for continuity? Have you checked the pump and its hoses?

Gene.

You are welcome. We are glad you were able to fix it.

I am trying to find an ORIGINAL replacement 10 hr defrost timer for this model. So far, I’ve only been able to get an 8 hour one with a black wire pigtail coming out, which makes the installation iffy. I did install an aftermarket 8 hr timer, but my refrigerator/freezer is not operating properly (defrosts too often). The original part # is 2176648. It does not have any external wires other than the four copper clips coming out of the base.

Len,

The manufacturer had redesigned this part and the old timer is no longer available. According to the [Tech sheet](http://www.servicematters.com/docs/part_instruct/482494.pdf"]installation instructions[/URL], replacement timer will provide defrost every 8 hours of compressor run time.

Per the [URL="http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Wiring%20Sheet%20-%202186936.pdf) for this model there is Version 2 cumulative compressor run timer application and the timer should be wired as described in Procedure 3 (page 3).

I’m replacing the defrost timer - in the part instructions, it shows 3 possible situations and gives 3 possible schematics for the defrost heater circuit in order to know which pin to put the pigtail for the timer motor on. Unfortunately, I don’t have the schematic for this refrigerator and I haven’t had much luck finding one online. Can anyone tell me which pin it should be - or point me to a site where I can find the schematic?
