I had a problem with my GE side by side fridge. I noticed a puddle of water under the frezzer. I quickly figured out it was coming from ice melting in my freezer. Both the fridge and frezzer were warmer than normal. The freezer was at 29 deg and fridge was at 44 deg per the display although the freezer probably was warmer than that because food and ice were not frozen. the light was working and a fan (defroster?) was running which would shut off when i opened a door and restart when I closed the door.
I unplugged the refridge and emptied out both fridge and freezer. I did a bit of research online and decided to test the starter relay by shaking it. I did not hear anything when shaking it. I seemed to have found conficting info about wheather that is good or bad. I then tried plugging it back in.
It has been running for a while now (about an hour or so) since I plugged it back in and both the fridge and freezer are cooling down. The compressor is too hot to touch (don’t know if that is normal or not).
One other thing to mention. I have noticed in the past that sometimes when using the ice dispenser, that it pushes the ice cube tray forward against the freezer door. Its possible that the freezer door was not completely closed/sealed for a while. Don’t know if that may have resulted in what I experienced or not?
Any suggestions on what may have happened. What to watch for. What may need to be replaced to prevent it from occuring again. Or should I be considering replacing the fridge. Going to be hard to trust it unless I can figure out what happened.
