heats but won't run

The dryer will heat when the timer is put on a cycle, but it won’t run. The push to start switch has continuity only when it is pushed in, but even if you keep the switch pushed in the motor doesn’t run the element just heats until the whole dryer is hot. The push to start switch doesn’t click when you push it in so I’m pretty sure it’s bad, but when nothing would run even if I held the switch in so that it had continuity I wondered if something else could also be wrong. The door switch seems to be OK. Any ideas what else might be wrong or could it all be in the push to start switch?

The first thing I would check is the heating element (#17 on the [AP3132867](http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?diagram_id=44653&&model_id=246672"bulkhead parts break down diagram]bulkhead parts break down diagram[/URL]) being shorted to ground and the thermal fuse (#7 on the ) for continuity.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?diagram_id=44653&&model_id=246672

Gene.

Ok Gene I hope this is the last time I have to bother you. I checked the heating element and there is continuity to ground ,I also checked the thermal fuse (part # 7 on the bulkhead diagram) and there is NO continuity soooo if I understand correctly that means I need to replace the thermal fuse, do I also need to replace the heating element? Thanks in advance for your help and patience. I appreciate your taking time to help others like this. BC
