Idler pulley and dryer belt problem

Hello, I am having difficulties with the idler pulley and dryer belt. I just replaced the motor in the dryer, and now that I am putting the dryer back together, I am having problems with the dryer belt. It is rubbing up against the metal part of the idler pulley and the belt is too loose. I have looked at the diagram posted on this site, and it seems that the idler pulley arm should be pulled out more (please see a picture of my dryer issue at the photo link included at the bottom). I don’t see another spring to pull it back more. What am I missing here?

Thank you for your help and Happy Holidays!

Try this
Remove the belt from the idler and motor.
Pull the idler to the far left.
Loop the belt onto the motor pulley
Release the idler pulley so that it puts pressure on the left hand side of the belt.

Should look like GE - Standard Capacity Models 1970-1990 in the diagrams.

Sorry I do not understand if you pull it to the left then when released it cannot go to its present position as it is up against the belt coming down from the left hand side of the drum.

Where it is in your first picture is where it is supposed to be.
The difference is that the back side of the belt coming down from the drum the left hand side of the drum rides on the right side of the idler wheel.

You have it riding on the belt coming down from the right hand side of the drum.

This side should not touch the idler it should go from the motor pulley directly up and over the drum.

Glad you got it up and running.
Sometimes I can see the procedure in my head but seem to have problems putting it down on paper where it makes sense to someone else.

Thanks for getting back to me.

May you and yours have a nice holiday season.
