Kenmore 80 Series Won't Agitate Will Spin

My Kenmore 80 series model 11.27892790 won’t agitate. Well, it was agitating occasionally when I messed with the cycle select knob (moving it to a different cycle), but now it won’t agaite at all. It fills, drains and spins. On the rinse cycle, after completeing the final spin, it adds some additional water - not a full tub, but just enough to make the clothes wet. Timer? Can I fix it myself? I’m a waitress with bad credit, and can’t afford a new machine.

I’ve replaced the dogs (which needed replacing anyway), but it didn’t help.

Does the motor run when it should agitate or it’s silent?

You can hear it as you do when it’s drain and/or spin.

No, it doesn’t sound like the motor is running - totally quiet. I can only hear the timer if I put my ear up against it.

Sorry for the delay as well. I’m assuming the part you called "the cycle select" is the timer. Looks like this part is the culprit.
