Kenmore Washer Drains Without Spinning

Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak III washer (110.20992991) drains without spinning until timer knob is pushed/pulled. Replaced clutch, clutch lining, motor coupling, but problem still exists.

Washer does not begin spinning during drain/rinse/spin cycle. However, pushing/pulling (stopping/starting) without turning the timer knob seems to release drum brake and allow spin to engage.

Thanks for any assistance.

Would it start to spin if you open and close the lid?

If it would then the problem is a bad timer.

Washer lid switch is jumpered, but I’ll check that the jumper is still working.

I did not mean to check the lid switch.

The transmission in your washer has a neutral stop what means - it has to be stopped by a timer for a few seconds during spin cycle in order to engage the actual spin. If it does not do it, the timer has to be replaced.

As you suspected, the spin does start after closing/lifting lid. But how do we know this is not a neutral drain problem where the latch isn’t swinging out to engage the spin gear cam which prevents the washer from going into spin (Job Aid L-55, page 14)?

Thanks

The problem with your washer has nothing to do with the transmission or its parts. It does not go on spin because the timer does not pause the cycle to let the latch to release the spin gear cam. It’s written on the next page in the manual.

The timer is the culprit. No doubt about it.

Thanks for your assistance and we’ll replace the timer.

You are welcome. Keep us posted.

I believe a microswitch in my Amana microwave is failing. How do I get the front panel off to get to the switch?

I need that answer too. I’m surprised that no one has supplied anything. Now I’m not sure what to do. Maybe retry the post of yours…
