Two days ago my washer began to spin very loud. It is evident tub isnt secure. Also, there was a faint smell from motor. I have opened it up but am stuck about what it may be.
Hi.
Remove the agitator and check if the spanner nut is tight. Shake the basket and see if it’s moves.

Lift the lid and pull up on the spin basket, if it seems loose, you have a loose drive block nut. If ok, Shine a light inside the spin basket and look for something stuck between the basket and tub like a bra band.

Ok, I did all of that and the spanner nut is very tight. also, there was no loose bolts or any bra straps, materials stuck in the agitator. Next suggestion??? Thanks so much, this has been very helpful at least!
Hi.
Remove the cabinet, bypass the lid switch and run the washer.
Locate where the noise come from.
Check the tension springs, glides under the tub.
Could be something inside the drain pump.
Use this video clip for disassemble instructions.

Good luck. Post the results.

the noise was just the tub moving about hitting the sides of the walls. I have the front taken off, got motor off but need someone to come over and get the two bolts off before the coupler-I am just not strong enough to get them off. Once that is off I will check the coupler. If it isnt that then maybe ill put it back together and see if it works again. the springs all seem okay, i did see the pins from the plate fell into the white cups-could that be anything?
Hi.
Don’t do anything with the coupling. I provided you the video clip only to help with disassembling the washer. Repeat - it’s not the coupling.Don’t go any further into it.
Please make it clear: is it basket shakes or the outer tub?
Thank you.
Simon.
im not sure if it is the basket or outer tub-arent they connected? i know it is the big thing in the middle and its shaking then made it hit the metal sides of washer, which created a loud noise. also, slight smell of burning.
Sorry, I have zero experience with washers. i appreciate your patience.
Hi.
Have you taken the cabinet off?
If you did, then check if tub and basket assembly is moving on the support frame freely. You may need to readjust the tub on the platform.
One more thing to check: on the top of the basket located balance ring.
Make sure it’s full with water. If it’s empty - replace it.
The balance ring 387240
