The machine will not spin. It will agatate and water will empty. When it is in the spin cycle the motor turns, the belt is tight and all pulleys turn but the drum:cool: will not spin. Any thoughts about this situation
My machine pav2300aww will not spin the motor runs in the spin cycle and all pulleys are turning. I tried to turn the drum by hand but it will not move. Any thoughts

If you can’t turn the drum by hand, the brake is doing its job. Replace the thrust bearing kit. [part]AP4009132[/part]
how hard is it to replace the thrust bearing kit?
is there any special tools needed to replace the thrust bearing
You’ll need no special tools to do the job. Just follow the instruction sheet that comes with the kit. When you’re replacing the C-clip that holds the assembly together, arm yourself with a generous measure of patience.
When you put the last washer in, you can pry down the shaft with a flat bladed screwdriver, and force the c clip on with pliers.
Once done, when you turn the pulley in spin direction, the cam must rise and release the brakes.
I replaced the thrust bearing kit. It was pretty easy. I operated the washer and it still did not spin. The little plastic piece with the splines was ok. All though I’m not sure if it released the brake. If you feel the agitator when it is in the spinn cycle it fell like the shaft is turning. Is there something under the tub that connects to the spin shaft that might have disconnected form the tub to keep it from spinning?.
is the spin tub attached to the spin shaft and could it be stripped causing it do to spin
That just doesn’t happen on a Maytag. You probably left a washer out, or you need to put a thicker one in.
Wow, thanks for that bit of info. I have seen this before and didn’t know what to do. Now I remember another person tapped on the brake housing to unstick the brake shoes. Will try to remember this for the future use.
