Maytag side by side freezing FF side, stumped

Maytag side by side (model:MSD2757AEW & serial:10405619WK) is freezing on the FF side. Freezer side is 0° and FF side is 25°. There is ice on the floor of the freezer, but I think that is unrelated. Tested the auto damper using ice and heat from my hand. It moves back and forth approximately 1/4 ². Tested the temperature control with a full counterclockwise rotation and felt it click, I assume that is off. Using and ohm meter, I checked across the two terminals on the temperature control, showed and open circuit. Full clockwise rotation shows continuity. Compressor seems to run continuously. However, if I move the freezer temperature control full left to a warmer setting it does shut off. On my model my the freezer temperature rod is geared to the temperature control, its sensing probe is about 1 inch into the freezer. It seems that when the compressor kicks in it just remains on.

There is a stong electrical smell coming from the timer. I removed it and can’t see why its smells. This just started a few days ago. The washer runs through it’s entire cycle. I’m worried about a potential fire. Should I replace the timer (around $100) or buy a new dishwasher?

Sorry your model number does not come up.
Please check it as it does not look like a Maytag number.
Could be it is very very old and there is not info available.

If it is very old you may be better off buying a new dishwasher.

As long as you are sure it is the timer that is smelling and you are considering replacing it, I would remove it from the unit and take it apart so you can confirm that it is the cause.
If yes then it may be worth while replacing.
If no then I would get a new unit.
