Splash,

Sounds, like you need a new thrust bearing kit (Iwould replace the belt as well).

That bearing assembly determines what the brake does and if it’s warn out it will not engage the gears to agitate properly, or will not set the brake properly in the spin cycle, and cause everything you’ve described.

Good Luck

More info still think it is the thrust bearing?

Splash,

If You mean a white looking, feeling powder on the base of the machine,

That’s normal, the unit uses Corn Starch as a lubricant between the base and snubber (suspension system) and doesn’t have a lot to do with the gearcase, agitate and spin process.

Yes, I still think you’ve got a thrust bearing problem, or that’s where you should start.

The alternatives are a whole lot more expensive.
