Maytag top loader will agitate and pump but won't spin

I have a Maytag Washing machine Model # MAV9504EWQ

It has stoping spining. I checked it out and found that it will agitate and pump out, but not spin the the water out.

I turned the machine on its back and rotated the center wheel. In one direction the agitator will move back and forth. In the other direction nothing happens, just a slight giggle of the basket. The wheel had some black grease on in.

What parts need to be replaced?

Here are the options.

Thrust bearing, brakes, transmission.

The thrust bearing kit is what I would start with.
The brakes are spring loaded and require a special tool and experience, do not open the brakes!
