My Maytag washer is older but not heavily used (just me) maybe 1x every 1.5wks… Anyways it stopped , I saw smoke & smelt like electrical smell. So I took off the front cover . The motor smelt burnt. I took off the belts & turned the center big pulley by hand, it slips, has a slow reaction to turning the washer basket. Can you tell me if that part is bad too.Thank you, Edwin
I can’t really tell if the motor is bad, but these motors do have built in systems that will shut it down if it overheats. It sounds very much like your motor is toast, but operate the machine with the front panel off and see what is happening.
