Maytag washer wont fill with water

I just got given a washer to replace the one that went down with a $150+ problem. I knew this one needed work, but for free I thought I would give it a try. It is a Maytag #LAT9635AAM. It will not fill up with water. Neither hot nor cold. I can fill it manually and it will run through the cycles, pretty well I might add for a washer this old. What might be the culprit of this problem?

BTW where might I dispose of a washer I dont want? It prob still has many good parts on it.

The first thing I would do is check for continuity both solenoids on the water inlet valve (#8 on the [B]diagram. If there is no continuity then the water valve has to be replaced.

Check the wires to the water valve. Check for 120 VAC to each solenoid while the timer calls for water (the lid must be closed). If there is no proper voltage and there is nothing wrong with the wires then check the fuse (10 on the diagram) for continuity. If the fuse is blown then check the alignment for both lid switches according to the wiring diagram before replacing the fuse.

If there is nothing wrong with the fuse and the lid switches then check the water level switch (#21 on the [URL="http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?diagram_id=767040&&model_id=42103)) for continuity according to the wiring diagram.

The last part in question is the timer.
