Maytag won't spin

Here’s my story: The washer runs normal except the drum doesn’t spin. The pump removes all the water, but while it is supposed to be spinning the agitator runs only. I replaced the pulley, thrust bearing and it seems to be adjusted correctly. That is when turned by hand in one direction the cams lock about halfway and in the other direction the cams release. While the belt was off, I spun the pump by hand, and it is free and functional. The motor runs and the belt is tight. I did notice that if I turn the pulley by hand, in either direction, only the agitator moves. I suspect the transmission, but I really want to be sure before spending that much money. I really can’t tell, but I assume that the motor is supposed to go in one direction for agitate and the other for spin?? I am not sure the motor ever reverses, but as I said if I turn the pulley by hand in either direction, all it does is agitate.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Bad transmission. The input pinion gear has an integral anti-backup device that should prevent operation in the spin direction. If the pump works, then the motor is reversing for the drain/spin cycle.

I replaced my belts and the little one spins but the bigger heavier one doesn’t spin… I have tightened the belts according to the examples. Does the big middle unit spin normally?
