I have a Whirpool GH5184XP microwave / oven hood combo, that blows the circuit breaker only when the cooking function is started. The clock, timer, fans, lights, and all other functions work. When START is pressed, however, the microwave runs for half a second before the circuit breaker trips. It is plugged into a dedicated circuit on the house wiring.
The inverter board has wiring with what seems to be heat damage (like dried-out looking insulation on wires, tiny burned spots, etc.), so I suspect it is the problem.
My questions are:
Are there other problems that could either cause the same symptoms?
How do you discharge the capacitors on the inverter board? There is no HV capacitor listed on the parts list, and I haven’t seen one inside the microwave.
Are there any other parts I should test before putting in the inverter board?
My icemaker has been limping along but now seems to be terminal. Get some ice but water continuously drips in to ice bin and turns everything in to one big clump of ice. Do I need an entire new ice maker? Thanks for the help as usual.
Also, slightly unrelated…some parts in fridge need replaced. Both crisper drawers are fine, but "track" they ride on are both broken. What parts do I need? Glass is fine.
One of the shelves in freezer door has broken guard. the plastic part that holds the item on the shelf??? Part number?
Locate the water inlet valve on the back of the refrigerator. Remove the wires from the red solenoid (1/4" tube connected to). Wait 30 minutes and check if it’s still dripping water into the ice maker. If it does, replace the water inlet valve.
The "tracks" are a part of the shelf. You have to order the shelf frame for the upper drawer and the cover for the bottom drawer.
Hi,
How did you fix this problem on your microwave? Did you replace the inverter board or something else? I have the same microwave with the same symptom so if can please let me know how you fix yours I would really appreciate your help. Thank you! Vin
