The question is restated at the end.
I purchased a left front (dual power) element (Part Number: AP6030938, Made by: Whirlpool) from APP.com.
Before I describe the issue, let me describe a work-around made. I had to hand make an "under the hood" adapter between a large male spade connector on the replacement element and the small female spade connector on the OEM wire harness. On the OEM element, there was a small male spade connector.
I can elaborate on this further if desired.
Here is the issue: When I restore power to the range, the "On" indicator light turns on and doesn’t turn off, even when all of the switches are off.
The cooktop is not hot and the "Hot Surface" indicator light isn’t on.
The "On" indicator light is on the control console, not next to the burner and there is only one "On" indicator light. See the diagram at <http://www.appliancepartspros.com/02-control-panel-parts-for-maytag-mer6875aas.html>. The "On" indicator light is the Indicator Light ("4" / Part Number AP6010863, by Whirlpool) on the left.
We just turned on each burner separately for a 20-30 seconds to see that they turn on and turn off as expected, and they do. I cooled down the cooktop with applications of cool water on a rag (it was taking too long to cool off naturally) and the "Hot Surface" indicator light went off.
Thank you for putting up with this overly-detailed post.
The question: Why is the "On" indicator light lit when none of the burners are on?
