Refrigator/freezer not cooling

The frig and freezer went out 2 days ago so I had to remove all the food and throw it away. I pulled the frig out and the fan was not running at the time. I cleaned the coils and pushed it back in place and turned the controls off and then back up. Got up the next morning and it seemed cooler but still not good. My wife came in and cleaned the inside out and meesed with the controls that morning then that night it started freezing again but the frig didn’t seem as cool. Woke up this morning and it’s down again any ideas on the problem

First you have to find out if the compressor is running.
You can usually hear it but also should be able to feel it vibrating and it should be warm.

If it is running remove the evaporator cover from inside the freezer so you can inspect the coils.

If heavily iced/frosted up you have a defrost problem.

If there is no frost or just frost in one area then you have a sealed system problem.

Note: Be sure the unit has run for a couple hours before checking the above.

If the fans and the compressor are not running you may be stuck in a defrost cycle.
