My three-year-old Kenmore refrigerator is freezing food in the fresh food section. What is causing this problem?
Is the cold control the same as the thermostat? How do I check if it is bad?
In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the refrigerator.
Gene.
Hi Gene,
I am having the same problem with my whirlpool refrigerator. Does not matter how I adjust the control knobs, the freezer and fresh food compartment are too cold. I had to throw some food away because they were frozen and became bad.
I checked the part number for my frig is : 2198202 from whirlpool.
How do I check if it is the cold control problem and how do I replace it if it is bad?
I will order the part from your website if I know for sure it is the problem and how to fix it.
Thanks
Often just the condenser coils under the fridge need cleaning.
Here is a good link.

See #18 and then #4
I clean mine by removing the kick plate and the rear cover.
I also remove the drip tray.
I then roll it to an open outside door.
Then use an air compressor to blow it out.
I have been told that a leaf blower also does a good job.
This may not be practical for you but thought I would mention it.
