anyone know the cause of this aggrivation? if so how do i fix it and do you know the part number/s? thanks!!!
I just experienced the 3 seconds and shut off problems. The model is JVM1650WB008. What I found was directly behind the control panel mounted on the bottom plate is a temp sensor that read 120. I jumped that sensor and the problem resolved. I replaced the sensor and have had no problem since.
I have a GE Model# GTS22WCMARWW.
The freezer is freezing but the frig is not cold. I replaced the Evaporator Motor and it does not turn on. I had the mother board replaced about 4 years ago.
Is this thing worth fixing?

Based on your knowledge of the appliances operation it appears that you may be able to assist me with diagnosing a problem with a GE JVM1650WH01. The light and the turntable will not operate but the unit will still heat food. The sound level is greatly reduced and occassionally both the light and turntable will come on and it will operate normally.

Very good information. after resetting the clock many times I dropped the front of the control panel down 2" using a wire tie and the microwave operates perfectly. Ordered the magnetron.

I experienced this same issue with the oven shutting down after a few seconds. My impression was that something was disrupting the control circuitry when the oven was in operation, so it was good to see your confirmation. I dropped the control panel down and, like you said, the oven ran without problem. Just for the heck of it, I took some aluminum foil, formed it into a rectangle about 5"x4" and taped it to the wire bundle behind the circuit board. I then remounted the control panel, turned on the oven, and it ran fine. I imagine that the foil is providing enough RF shielding to prevent the magnetron from messing up the board. Here’s my question: Could the leakage from the magnetron be harmful? Should I not run the oven in this condition or is the amount of RF being leaked probably pretty small and as long as the foil shielding works, I can use the oven? I’d really appreciate your opinion. Thanks!
That shield you made of aluminum foil can be used only for a test purpose. It is not save to use on a regular basis. You have to replace the magnetron ASAP.
If you can post the complete model number of the microwave I might be able to find a better price for you.

Do you recommend replacing the diode with the magnetron? Looks like together they add up to more than the cost for a new oven. Also, I found a good video on YouTube showing how to replace the magnetron and diode if I decide to go that way.

I have purchased a new magnetron but was wondering if the "leakage" is enough to be a problem for anything more than the board. Would the magnetron eventually fail and is operation hazardous? If the board weren’t so sensitive you’d never know. I am an electronics technician and a little awed that you figured this one out.

It is a good idea to replace the diode at the same time. I found the best prices on both parts.

It’s already did fail and it’s better not to play with it. Even if it is not hazardous now, it can become hazardous at any second. If you don’t like to spend money for a new magnetron, replace the microwave.

Gene - Thanks for your time and advice. If my issue was due to a failure in the shielding of the board, the foil would be a good fix. Sounds like I’m dealing with a failing magnetron, which is certainly something much more serious. Not wanting stray RF emanating from the oven, my alternatives are to either replace the magnetron and diode for about $100, or the entire oven for $200 (Home Depot). Considering the oven is seven years old, I think I’m going to go with new. Thanks again for your help!

Be advised, the website this guy is promoting states that they will contact you with progress about the repair progress of your microwave display and that it should be shipped within a couple of weeks. That’s a bald face lie. This guys cashes your check and then never gets back to you. Don’t use his repair service.
