My washer does not spin. I have been reading richappy’s thread XXXX. My question is in richappy’s post, hee states, "To confirm further, remove pump and motor (replace tranny coupler if broken) and turn tranny coupler clockwise till basket starts to turn, if very hard to turn, this confirms it". Well, my basket does not spin when I turn the tranny coupler clockwise. I feel the clutch engage, and it does get harder to turn, but te basket never spins. I currently have a spanner nut wrench on order because I can’t remove the nut. I would also like to order the repair parts now if possible, but I don’t know if the clutch is slipping or if there’s something wrong with the brakes. Please advise.
Start with the clutch, which should come with a new brake release cam. It may be the clutch is bad or that your brakes are not releasing.
If this does not fix the problem you can move on to the brakes, using Richappy’s excellent Sticky as a guide.
I ran into the same problem today & not sure which post you are referring to, but looking up your model # is shows using the same motor coupling that I just replaced on mine…the new part no is 285753A. $12 to $14 on line but picked it up at Sears parts store for $18.50 + tax. Another very helpful site had instructions & photos on how to work on the washer - Applianceaid.com. This part is in between the motor and the gearcase. Good luck.
