Washer will not agitate

G’day’
The symptoms;
My Maytag washer will fill to the correct level, but will not run the agitate cycle, (but I can hear the counter counting down) then finish the rest of the run,(empty, spin, fill, spin, empty, off)
Beginning to suspect the motor, since it finishes the cycle.
What is the best(easiest) way to check the motor? (somewhat mechanical)
Or is their something I am overlooking, like a fuse maybe?
Thanks for any help.
J.

It’s not the motor. Does the motor run or hum while in agitate mode? If running, does the main drive pulley rotate? If no sound from the motor but timer is still running, the timer is faulty.

FB56,
No, their is no sound except for the timer counting during the agitate cycle.
What is would be the best way to check the timer?
Or just R&R it?

Have you tried it in delicate cycle? Delicate uses slow speed agitate through a different set of timer contacts.

Eric,
Yes, just tried it and the agitator works.
Would that be further evidence that the timer is bad?
Thanks
J.

Yes, it is, if you buy from APP, you can return it if it doesn’t work but I’m sure it’s the timer.
