I found my kitchen flooded today, and had to shut off the water supply to my refrigerator to make it stop running. There are no obvious leaks, everything looks fine inside, no damaged pipes. It is rather dirty, though, with pet hair and dust, can’t wait to clean once the water dries up. My question: does this sound like a simple repair (replacement valve?) that I might try myself? I’m fairly competent with a screwdriver and good directions, haha. Thanks for replying.
Did you happen to notice at all where the water was coming from? Leaks are always visible and once you have things dried out and cleaned up, turn the water back on and see if you can find the source. Most everything in the water system isn’t to difficult to change, so once you find the source, we can help you to get it repaired.
The filter housing on those models self seals and bypasses the filter to allow water to continue to flow even when the filter is removed. Each filter comes with new seals on the ends so start with a new filter as that will most likely solve the problem.
I had a service call to repair the same kind of problem. When I arrived, there were beach towels hanging everywhere. I asked if they had just had a pool party. I was led to the refrigerator ( a Whirlpool) and saw the water gushing out so violently, I thought the filter housing had ruptured. When I asked them the last time they changed the filter, the response was, "I didn’t know there WAS a filter"! The unit was four years old. I changed the filter (and showed them how). No more leak!
