Whirlpool Direct Drive with No Spin-Agitation

Howdy everyone,

Thanks in advance for reading my question. My machine is about 9 years old and abruptly ceased spinning tonight. A search of the web/YouTube landed me checking out the motor coupling which seemed to fit the symptom, but upon taking it out both sides were actually in great shape.

I removed the cabinet and found a few pieces of black plastic on the floor and a decent-sized spot of oil. When I run the machine in spin cycle it sounds like it’s spinning but nothing moves. I removed the agitator to see if the head of the post was spinning but no luck there either. As soon as the spin cycle starts I can smell an odor like something rubbing/burning.

I can rotate the agitator by hand with the machine off and don’t notice anything unusual about it - any ideas how I might go about finding the breakdown?

Thanks again,
AJ

Sounds like if the washer is spinning but not spinning to me it sounds like the basket drive block is bad and needs to be replaced if so for this repair you will have to remove the case, agitator, tub ring and the spanner nut to remove the tub and after removing the tub tap up on the drive block remove it and replace it with a new one be sure to aline the tabs up on the basket drive with the block then reinstall the tub tighten the spanner nut and the tub ring then the agitator replace the case close up the washer then test it,hopes this help, or just Google how to change a whirlpool basket drive block or search Youtube for this repair.
