Washer runs through to spin cycle, spins but won’t drain and stops itself while trying to spin full of water. timer keeps going and knob finishes. If I turn knob to try to spin it sometimes starts spinning again but won’t drain. It may randomly drain a little an stop again. Usually once it stops it has to sit for a while to get it to spin again. My husband bypassed the capacitor and for some reason it let me do about 5 loads and then right back to same problem. Repair person came out and said $300 for transmission. But nothing I am finding online sounds like the transmission. Going on month 3 with no washer…HELP!
Look for a clogged or broken pump; clogged or kinked drain hose. Make sure the drain hose isn’t jammed into the stand pipe. It needs some air around it to properly drain. If all else is alright, have a plumber check for a clogged drain.
thank you for responding. it is not a clog becuase it randomly works fine. if the pump gets going it drains with no problem. Pump is not clogged either. Motor is working. The repair guy said the trans is not turning the pump. does that sound feasible?
No. This is a direct drive machine. the pump is directly attached to the motor.
ya know, I had a bad feeling about this repair guy. Do you have any ideas on a direction, trouble shooting, thoughts on what else it would be with the detail I gave on what is happening? I appreciate you time.
Just to add my 2 cents…
You may want to remove the washer cabinet

and using a flashlight check for any foreign objects between the inner and outer tubs. It can float and intermittently clog the drain hose from the tub to the pump.

ok, I am definetly going to check that but I have a question. When it won’t drain, it is as if it is not trying to drain. like something locks up. but the motor is running because it still spins. It does eventually stop spinning if it stops trying to drain and I thought it was because the wait of the water during the rapid spin. At that point everything stops except the timer and the knob keeps rotating until all cycle would have been done. Does this still sound like what would happen if there was something randomely clogging it? I will check it just to be sure. Looks like there is stuff in between the tubs. Thank you for sending the "how to". i will let you know what i find
This description points to a foreign object inside the pump or a bad pump bearing.

ok, great. i will take the suggestions you guys have given me and do some trouble shooting. Thank you so much. I will post results
