Whirlpool washer spin problems

Loud banging noise during rinse spin cycle. Checked motor coupling looked fine. Also checked dog ear kit and they do look slightly worn. Next I guess I’ll check drive block, clutch tranny? Help Thanks

I would check the drive block first.

Thanks Gene. I have the agitator off, how do I access the drive block?

You can find the complete instructions in one or our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/373-not-spinning.html

What would the symptoms of a bad clutch be?

Sorry for the delay. You can find the complete instructions in the Service manual.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?diagram_id=85789&&model_id=257541

If the basket seems loose, you might have a bad drive block or bad spin tube tabs.
Put the drive block nut on half way, pound down on the nut and pull up on the spin basket to break it free, then pull it off. Inspect the spin tube tabs for wear.

Thanks for all your help. After two weeks… hours on-line researching and toubleshooting I threw in the towel…put the washer back together and took it to our local appl. repair guy and he found that the transmission was bad. So instead of spending $200 + to fix an 8yr. old washer, I bought a like-new Speed Queen from him for $200. Other than my wife being pissed off, I don’t regret trying to fix it myself. I learned a lot about washers and that there are good people out there willing to help their fellow man. Thanks to all the DIY’s and professionals on-line.

You are welcome. Keep us posted.

After washing cycle is done, it stops, rinse and spin cycles does not start.
I checked for broken belts, they look ok,
I think is the timer that became faulty.
Does any one has any experience with the same problem?

Thanks.

Your model number does not come up, but the ones that are close are direct drive washers, so we do not know what belts you are looking at.

It sounds like a lid switch problem. By pass it, using the instructions at this site and see if that is what it is.

infinite thermostat. the infinite thermostat for the stove top large burning element needs to be replaced. Occasionally when I try to use this burner, there is no heat. I have tested this element by replacing it for the other large element with known well-functioning infinite thermostat. I need to order a new infinite thermostat. There are four thermostats for the four burners. They all look alike. What is the part number I should order? Do you have it in stock? Thanks for your help.
